Terms of Service
Effective date: 24 September 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern access to and use of PaperSprocket, including the PaperSprocket website, API, rendering service, API keys, usage metering, and related services (together, the "Service").
PaperSprocket is operated by Ignat Savkin, trading as PaperSprocket, an Irish sole trader, with a business address at 5 Harcourt Road, Dublin, Ireland, D02 FW64 ("PaperSprocket", "we", "us", or "our").
By creating or using a PaperSprocket account, obtaining or using an API key, purchasing PaperSprocket usage through Paddle, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
1. Business use only
PaperSprocket is provided for business, professional, developer, and organisational use only.
You may use the Service only in connection with a trade, business, profession, or other commercial or organisational activity. By accepting these Terms, you represent that you are entering into them wholly or mainly for purposes relating to your trade, business, craft, profession, or organisation, and not as a consumer acting for personal or household purposes. PaperSprocket is not offered for consumer use during the current validation phase.
If you use PaperSprocket on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.
You are responsible for the use of the Service by your employees, contractors, software, autonomous agents, and other systems acting through your account or API credentials.
2. What PaperSprocket provides
PaperSprocket provides an API that processes customer-supplied content to generate documents, including PDFs.
PaperSprocket is a rendering service, not a document-storage service. Customer document content is processed only as needed to perform the requested render. PaperSprocket does not provide durable storage of submitted document content or completed PDFs as part of the Service.
Temporary technical files may be created during rendering where required by the rendering system. On normal completion, those artifacts are deleted as part of processing. Orphaned temporary artifacts left by interrupted or failed jobs are subject to automated cleanup and are intended to be deleted within one hour.
The Service may change during the validation phase. We may add, remove, or modify features where reasonably necessary, provided that we do not retrospectively remove purchased unused usage without refund or equivalent remedy.
3. Accounts and API credentials
You must provide accurate information when creating or maintaining an account.
API keys and other credentials are confidential. You are responsible for:
- keeping them secure;
- limiting access to authorised users and systems;
- promptly revoking or replacing credentials that may have been compromised; and
- activity performed through your credentials, except to the extent caused by PaperSprocket's own breach or failure.
You must not sell, transfer, publish, or intentionally expose API credentials to an unauthorised third party.
We may suspend or revoke credentials where reasonably necessary to protect the Service, other users, or third parties, including where we detect suspected compromise, abuse, unlawful activity, or material breach of these Terms.
4. Pricing and usage
PaperSprocket is currently offered on a prepaid usage basis.
Unless the website or Paddle checkout states otherwise:
- each usage purchase is US$10;
- rendering is charged at US$0.02 per successfully rendered page;
- there is no subscription; and
- there is no free tier.
A "successfully rendered page" means a page included in a render that the Service records as successfully completed. Failed render attempts that do not produce a successful render should not consume page usage.
Current pricing is displayed on papersprocket.com and in the applicable Paddle checkout. We may change pricing prospectively. A pricing change does not alter the value of already purchased unused usage unless you agree otherwise.
5. Payments and Paddle
Payments are processed through Paddle, which acts as Merchant of Record / authorised reseller for purchases made through Paddle.
The purchase transaction between you and Paddle is subject to Paddle's applicable buyer terms, payment terms, tax handling, and refund processes. PaperSprocket does not process or store your full payment-card details.
PaperSprocket receives transaction and account information from Paddle as needed to provision usage, maintain the internal usage ledger, support customers, prevent fraud, and reconcile payments.
PaperSprocket's internal usage ledger determines the amount of PaperSprocket usage available to your account and the amount consumed through successful renders.
6. Refunds
Our current refund model is described in the PaperSprocket Refund Policy published at:
https://papersprocket.com/refund-policy/
In summary:
- unused prepaid PaperSprocket usage is refundable on request, subject to Paddle's refund process and any applicable legal or payment-provider requirements;
- usage already consumed through successful renders is generally non-refundable;
- refunds or corrections may also be available for duplicate or incorrect charges, material service failure, fraud or error, or where required by applicable law or Paddle's rules; and
- refunding, reversing, or invalidating a transaction does not require PaperSprocket to erase the underlying billing, audit, usage, security, or accounting record where retention remains necessary.
Where a refund is due under this policy, PaperSprocket will request or authorise the applicable refund through Paddle, which processes the customer payment as Merchant of Record. PaperSprocket does not issue card-payment refunds directly to the buyer.
If the Service is discontinued while you hold unused prepaid usage, we will provide a reasonable mechanism for refunding the unused portion, subject to fraud, dispute, legal, or payment-provider restrictions.
7. Acceptable use
You must not use PaperSprocket:
- for unlawful activity;
- to create, process, or distribute content that you do not have the right to use;
- to infringe intellectual-property, privacy, confidentiality, or other rights;
- to distribute malware or malicious code;
- to probe, attack, disable, overload, or interfere with the Service or its infrastructure;
- to evade technical, usage, security, or account restrictions;
- to use compromised, stolen, or unauthorised credentials;
- to attempt to access another customer's account, credentials, data, or systems; or
- in a way that creates material legal, security, infrastructure, or abuse risk for PaperSprocket or its providers.
We may refuse or suspend processing where reasonably necessary to address those risks.
8. Your content and responsibilities
You retain any rights you already hold in content that you submit to PaperSprocket and in generated output, subject to any rights of third parties.
You grant PaperSprocket a limited, non-exclusive right to process your submitted content solely to:
- perform the requested render;
- transmit the generated result to you;
- maintain security and service integrity; and
- comply with applicable law.
You are responsible for ensuring that you have the rights and lawful basis necessary to submit content to the Service.
PaperSprocket does not claim ownership of your submitted document content merely because it is processed by the Service.
9. Personal data in customer content
If you submit personal data contained in documents or render payloads on behalf of your business or organisation, you are normally the controller of that personal data and PaperSprocket acts as your processor for the rendering operation.
The data-processing terms in section 10 apply to that processing.
PaperSprocket acts separately as a controller for personal data that it processes for its own account administration, billing, security, support, legal, and operational purposes. Those activities are described in the PaperSprocket Privacy Notice.
10. Data processing terms
This section is intended to form the data-processing terms required by Article 28 GDPR where PaperSprocket processes personal data contained in customer content on your behalf.
10.1 Subject matter, duration, nature and purpose
PaperSprocket processes personal data contained in customer-submitted render content only for the purpose of providing the requested document-rendering service and closely related security and delivery functions.
The processing lasts for the duration of the requested render and any strictly necessary temporary technical handling associated with that job.
PaperSprocket does not provide durable storage of customer document content. Temporary artifacts are deleted following normal processing, and orphaned temporary artifacts are subject to automated cleanup intended to remove them within one hour.
10.2 Types of data and data subjects
The types of personal data and categories of data subjects depend on the content you choose to submit. They may include personal data relating to your customers, employees, contractors, users, suppliers, or other individuals.
You control which personal data is submitted and must avoid submitting personal data that is unnecessary for the render.
10.3 Controller rights and obligations
You determine the purposes of the customer-content processing and the personal data that you choose to submit to the Service.
You are responsible for ensuring that:
- you have a lawful basis and all necessary rights to submit and process the personal data;
- your instructions to PaperSprocket comply with applicable data-protection law;
- the personal data submitted is relevant and not excessive for the requested render; and
- any information or notices you are required to provide to data subjects have been provided.
You may issue documented instructions concerning the processing within the scope of the Service and these Terms, and you retain all rights and responsibilities that apply to you as controller under GDPR.
10.4 Instructions
PaperSprocket will process customer-content personal data only on your documented instructions, as expressed through your use of the Service and these Terms, unless processing is required by applicable law.
If applicable law requires processing outside your instructions, PaperSprocket will inform you before processing unless the law prohibits that notice.
If PaperSprocket believes that an instruction infringes GDPR or other applicable EU or Member State data-protection law, PaperSprocket will inform you without undue delay and may suspend the affected processing until the instruction is clarified, changed, or otherwise lawfully resolved.
10.5 Confidentiality
PaperSprocket will ensure that persons authorised to access customer-content personal data are subject to appropriate confidentiality obligations.
10.6 Security
PaperSprocket will maintain appropriate technical and organisational measures proportionate to the risk of the processing.
The Service is designed to minimise retained customer content. Document bodies, submitted HTML, generated PDFs, raw API keys, and authorisation headers are not intended to be written to ordinary application logs.
10.7 Subprocessors
PaperSprocket uses Hetzner Online GmbH as its current hosting subprocessor in Germany for infrastructure on which customer render content is transiently processed.
You authorise PaperSprocket to use Hetzner Online GmbH for this purpose.
If PaperSprocket intends to add or replace a subprocessor that will materially process customer document content on PaperSprocket's behalf, PaperSprocket will give reasonable advance notice and provide you with an opportunity to object on reasonable data-protection grounds. Any such subprocessor will be bound by data-protection obligations that provide an equivalent level of protection for the relevant processing as required by Article 28 GDPR.
PaperSprocket remains responsible for its own obligations under these Terms notwithstanding the use of subprocessors.
10.8 International transfers
Customer render content is processed on EU-hosted infrastructure in Germany.
PaperSprocket will not intentionally transfer customer-content personal data outside the European Economic Area unless the transfer is necessary to provide the Service and is made using an appropriate GDPR transfer mechanism, or the transfer is required by applicable law.
10.9 Data subject rights and compliance assistance
Taking into account the nature of the processing and information available to PaperSprocket, we will provide reasonable assistance where required to help you respond to requests by data subjects and to meet applicable GDPR obligations concerning security, breach notification, data-protection impact assessments, and prior consultation.
Because customer document content is not retained after processing, PaperSprocket may no longer possess the relevant content by the time a later request is received.
10.10 Personal-data breaches
If PaperSprocket becomes aware of a personal-data breach affecting customer-content personal data processed on your behalf, we will notify you without undue delay and provide information reasonably available to us that is relevant to your own legal obligations.
10.11 Return or deletion
The generated PDF is returned to you as part of the requested render response. PaperSprocket does not provide durable storage of the submitted source content or generated PDF after processing.
Source content and generated output are deleted as part of normal processing. Any residual temporary artifacts left by an interrupted or failed job are subject to the automated cleanup process described in section 2 and are intended to be deleted within one hour.
Because the processing model is intentionally transient, PaperSprocket may no longer hold customer-content personal data by the time a later request for return is made. Where PaperSprocket still holds such data at the end of the relevant processing, it will delete it or, where technically and legally practicable and requested before deletion, return it to you, unless applicable law requires retention.
This deletion requirement does not apply to separate controller-side records that PaperSprocket must or may retain for billing, accounting, fraud prevention, security, legal claims, or other legitimate purposes.
10.12 Audit information
PaperSprocket will make available information reasonably necessary to demonstrate compliance with this section and will cooperate with reasonable audit or inspection requests where required by Article 28 GDPR.
Audits must be proportionate, protect the security and confidentiality of other users and systems, and avoid unnecessary disruption. Where appropriate, PaperSprocket may satisfy an audit request through existing documentation, provider compliance materials, or other reasonable evidence rather than unrestricted infrastructure access.
11. Service availability and support
PaperSprocket is currently a validation-stage service.
We do not provide:
- a service-level agreement;
- guaranteed uptime;
- guaranteed render latency;
- guaranteed support-response times; or
- service credits.
Support is provided by email at support@papersprocket.com.
We currently aim to respond to support requests within two business days. This is a service target, not an SLA or contractual guarantee.
Maintenance, faults, upstream-provider failures, security incidents, or other events may temporarily interrupt the Service.
12. Changes, suspension and discontinuation
We may modify, suspend, limit, or discontinue all or part of the Service where reasonably necessary for security, maintenance, legal compliance, abuse prevention, provider changes, technical reasons, or because the validation service is being changed or ended.
Where reasonably practicable, we will avoid unnecessary disruption and give notice of material changes that adversely affect active users.
If discontinuation prevents you from using purchased unused usage, section 6 applies.
13. Intellectual property
PaperSprocket and its software, branding, documentation, website content, and service infrastructure are owned by or licensed to PaperSprocket and are protected by applicable intellectual-property law.
Except for the limited right to use the Service under these Terms, no PaperSprocket intellectual-property rights are transferred to you.
You may not copy, sell, sublicense, reverse engineer, or exploit PaperSprocket's proprietary software except where expressly permitted by law or by written agreement.
14. Third-party services
PaperSprocket relies on third-party infrastructure and services, including hosting and payment providers.
Those providers may experience outages, security events, or changes outside PaperSprocket's reasonable control.
PaperSprocket is not responsible for a third party's independent acts or omissions to the extent liability cannot fairly or lawfully be attributed to PaperSprocket, but this does not exclude responsibility for PaperSprocket's own obligations in selecting, configuring, or using its providers.
15. Warranties
PaperSprocket will provide the Service with reasonable skill and care consistent with the nature of a small validation-stage developer service.
Except for rights or obligations that cannot lawfully be excluded, the Service is provided without any guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, suitable for every use case, or compatible with every document, browser feature, external resource, or software environment.
You are responsible for evaluating whether the Service is suitable for your intended use and for maintaining appropriate copies of your own source content.
16. Liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation and any statutory or data-protection liability to the extent applicable law does not permit it to be excluded or capped.
Subject to the preceding paragraph, and to the maximum extent permitted by law:
- neither party is liable to the other for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of revenue, loss of business opportunity, or loss of goodwill arising from use of the Service; and
- PaperSprocket's aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Service and these Terms will not exceed the greater of:
- the amount paid through Paddle for PaperSprocket usage by the affected customer during the three months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim; or
- US$100.
This section does not reduce any refund obligation expressly provided under section 6.
17. Indemnity for unlawful customer use
To the extent permitted by law, you will be responsible for reasonable losses, liabilities, claims, and costs incurred by PaperSprocket as a direct result of your unlawful use of the Service or your material breach of section 7 or section 8.
This does not apply to the extent the loss was caused by PaperSprocket's own act, omission, negligence, or breach.
18. Termination
You may stop using PaperSprocket at any time.
PaperSprocket may terminate or suspend your access if:
- you materially breach these Terms;
- use creates material security, abuse, legal, or infrastructure risk;
- payment is reversed, fraudulent, or invalid;
- continued provision would breach applicable law or provider requirements; or
- the validation service is discontinued.
Termination does not erase obligations that by their nature should survive, including payment reconciliation, refunds, confidentiality, intellectual property, data-protection obligations, liability provisions, and lawful record retention.
19. Records
PaperSprocket may retain account, transaction, usage-ledger, security, support, and accounting records for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which they are held, including applicable tax, accounting, fraud-prevention, dispute, and legal obligations.
This does not change the separate no-durable-document-storage model for customer render content described above.
20. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time.
For material changes, we will take reasonable steps to give notice before the change takes effect where practicable.
Changes apply prospectively. Continued use of the Service after an updated version takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
21. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Ireland.
The courts of Ireland will have jurisdiction over disputes arising from these Terms or the Service, subject to any mandatory rule of law that applies otherwise.
Before starting formal proceedings, the parties should make a reasonable attempt to resolve the dispute directly.
22. General
If a provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect.
A failure to enforce a provision immediately is not a waiver of that provision.
You may not assign your rights under these Terms without our prior written consent, except as part of a genuine transfer of your business or substantially all relevant assets. PaperSprocket may assign these Terms as part of a transfer or restructuring of the PaperSprocket business, provided doing so does not materially reduce your rights.
These Terms, together with the policies expressly incorporated by reference, form the agreement between you and PaperSprocket concerning use of the Service. Paddle's separate buyer terms continue to govern the purchase transaction processed by Paddle.
